The only thing Alienware have going for them are the cases they use for their desktop range. Other than that they're a load of overpriced tosh. You can spec an identical system if you're willing to build it yourself for (in most cases) 2/3 of the price if that. As for laptops, well, what self-respecting gamer plays on a laptop anyway |

Same mate It's such a clever marketing ploy not selling them individually though. Guarantee that 80% of the people with alienware machines could have easily bought one for themselves, butjust wanted the case |

yeah, nice pcs, but horribly overpriced. eg, they say an 8800GT costs £127 more than an 8600GT. A floppy disk drive costs £15, a 500GB hard drive costs £50 more than a 250Gb, low latency 800MHz RAM costs £70 more than normal 800MHZ RAM... Overpricing is ridiculous |

See that's fair enough, at least you can justify it. The ones I don't understand are the people who *choose* to play on a laptop when they could just as easily get a better PC for less moolah. Silly billies!

Yeah, I can't justify (or afford) having an amazing desktop and a decent laptop, so since I need portability more than crysis-munching power I figured I would just go for a good laptop. tbh though those alienwares are hardly portable (without breaking your back) so I really don't see a lot of point in having that over a much better PC for less £££. |

Tbh, I actually prefer my current case to the alienware cases anyway, I'm yet to see anyone else that has got one that looks like mine Watch this space (or rather the other thread in fact) for a picture when I remember

Mine is http://pics.computerbase.de/1/6/2/7/8.../7/8/2.jpg Except I've modified it slightly to use the fanbays in the door used on the older stacker models, like this. The fanbays are hinged, and swing back into position just behind the orange mesh.: http://www.overclock.net/attachments/...c03765.jpg Woah, long URL -_- Ironically enough the guy from the second picture also uses the same CPU cooler as me. Bonuses to the case are the mesh on all sides (including top and bottom), meaning ridiculous amounts of airflow, so supercold! I did, however, have to invest in some finer mesh to line the insides with, as at first I ended up with significant dust build up. My Q6600 (2.4) is currently clocked to 3.6 Ghz, and runs at about 35-40 under high load, which is pretty sweet. Obviously I have the obligatory neon blue LED fans in all available bays, so it glows a lovely colour, contrasts quite well with the orange actually. It's really light as well. My setup is: Asus P5B Premium (vista edition) nvidia geforce 8800 GTX 4GB 8500 Corsair Intel quad Q6600 2.4, clocked to 3.6 pretty basic 7.1 x-fi sound Edited by FuZz on 13-02-2008 13:58 |
