As it is coming up to Christmas, it is my time when I can afford to buy a new motherboard+cpu. Can someone with a little more knowledge than I help me out with some suggestions. I'm looking mid-range so probably 250-all in. So not top range, but better than I have now. I look forward to your suggestions as the demo for L4D-demo downloads |

Well if you want to pay an extra £50, you can get a msi P7N diamond motherboard (comes with free Creative XFi Sound card) and a q600(quadcore) intel processor. here's some links for you to see specs... they've done me pretty good. The motherboard can have triple sli - but the soundcard will mean you only really have the space for two (which imo is enough!) http://www.scan.c...XFi+Sound+ http://www.scan.c...%2c+Retail |

With that budget u can get some good stuff and have change from £250 Processor: E7300, mid range very overclockable, if you up for it http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpro...27Wolfdale or spend a bit more and go for a E8200 (more cache thats all) or even a Quad Q6600 Motherboard: Asus P5Q Intel 45, latest intel chipset solid performance (I have the P5Q-E very good) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpro...otherboard You may need memory to (dont know how old your current set up is) very cheap at mo 2gb or 4gb would be better any of the named brands this looks good. http://www.overcl...&name=GeIl or this for serious overclocking http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpro...-GL&tool=3 £229 inc VAT and memory can go cheaper still, depends what you need to do... I have simlar setup to Gorilla's, the Q6600 is a bargain chip & makes me grin, I used to dislike asus but can't fault current offerings, I have generation before the P5Q-E, the P5E which has the x38 chipset, if I was buying new at the moment I would also be looking at the P45 chipset offerings.. the DDR3 stuff is really ott price wise at the moment so would stay well away Go with 4gig of RAM as its cheap and you won't kick yourself 2 weeks later... if you do plan on overclocking make sure you keep an eye for deals on RAM currently http://overclockers.co.uk have the Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2G DDR2 PC2-8500C6 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit for £46.99 inc VAT (this deal is only about a £10 more than the lower spec RAM) Also factor in a good cpu cooler Edited by sick-lizard on 12-11-2008 19:09 |

I invested in earmuffs once the 3rd child arrived. For some reason, all my hardware seems to have chav lights installed - the speakers, my keyboard, the fucking graphics card...blue blue blue twinkling lights. |

My PC has many colours of lights blue, orange, red and green. Its like a rainbow Might have to look at upgrading myself but have no idea how much I can afford to throw at it. Plus I think my mother board can run low end duel cores so I will have to do some proper research for it |
