You either love it, or hate it. In my case its love (depending on series.) Only watched few series so far: Death Note Elfen Lied Code Geass. (so good i changed my avatar) Any anime veterans here could recommend something that is a more serious nature and not too long series like the ones listed above? Also feel free to discuss *raises up animehater flameshield* Edited by Cpt Obvious on 03-10-2008 23:37 |

The only ones I ever liked are Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. Naruto is ok but the episode structure really pisses me off, almost every 5 minuts there's a goddamn flashback, sometimes from the same fricking episode, that's just annoying. |

Props to Tom; Cowboy Bebop is one of the best shows out there period, an absolute classic.. and it's not even that long. I also loved Fullmetal Alchemist |

For some of us kids of the 80s, growing up with Mysterious Cities of Gold, Battle of the Planets(Gatchaman), Voltron and Ulysses 31, we basically had anime shoved down our throats from an early age You have started off with some decent ones Captian Definately check out the two that Tom mentioned, Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo are both awesome. Personally can not stand cutesy/slapstick/romantic anime, basically most of the emo stuff that Raven listed If you have not seen any of the 'classic' movies like Akira, Ghost in the Shell 1/2, Ninja Scroll, Patlabor 1/2, Princess Mononoke or Appleseed then give them a whirl. |

I am too cheap to buy anime, so I read those scanlated, free animes, which are flying around the internet. www.onemanga.com is my source. So far, I've read Majin Tentami Nougami Neuro, 20/21 century boy (this is what I really really recommend for everyone, it's awesome), HighSchool of the Dead (Ooooh, shiny, a zombie manga, with boobs. ) and Hajime No Ippo (If you go working out and have a lack of motivation READ THIS YOU FUCKER. If not, read it anyway, it's a pretty cool boxing manga.) And now I realize that manga is not anime. Shit. In Germany you don't get to see many animes, because there is only one channel which shows them. I've watched Dragonball and DBZ (Whatever you say, this shit is siiiick.) Sailor Moon ( Yeah, I was 7 years old...not an excuse, but I was 7 years old.). Tried to watch Ghost in the Shell, but it was hard, since they only show it at 1 am and I normally fall asleep while waiting for it. Where do you guys get your anime? Are watching it on TV or do you have a shiny special site? Mine would be www.crunchyroll.com. |

I never really got into any anime films, most of them just don't interest me. Howls Moving Castle was awesome, though. Blue Dragon is pretty much it atm. Everyone seems to like naruto, I'll give that a try when I'm less busy. All work and no anime Edited by Mike on 04-10-2008 16:52 |

id agree totally with cowboy bebop. If you liked Code Geass then theres a fairly good chance that you would enjoy both Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex TV series. Geass has arcing and sometimes deep storyline which is similar to Ghost in the Shell (GitS), also the content of Gits is alot more adult (that doesnt mean porn). As a side not was it just me that was disappointed by the second season of Code Geass? a case of trying too hard imo, the magic just wasnt there. Naruto and Bleach are long running series with large casts and massive story lines. Both have their good point and bad points but be warned if you start watching them you will still be watchign them in a year from now. Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Chmaploo are effortlessly cool at all times. They were both directed by a guy called ShinichirÅ Watanabe who seems to be able to make any show work. Bebop is about space bounty hunters with a stunning blues and jazz soundtrack and is probably the best show that has been made ever. Samurai Champloo is a similar style but about samurai in Japan in the 1800s with a hip-hop soundtrack (sounds crazy i know but it works). Both shows are finite and so there is closure on both, somethign you wont really get with Naruto or Bleach. There are others but those are the main 5 you should look at. As a rule of thumb (so doesnt alwaye work) the intro is a good yardstick to how good the show is. If you like the intro odds are youll like the show. If this holds true most of the time then this will help:: Cowboy Bebop -> http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=T6zDfxZ...6zDfxZ4NcE Samurai Champloo ->http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4OuRajF...OuRajFzMYI Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex -> http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=r8r6dHI...8r6dHIzg4I Bleach -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtloNv...tloNvtGXX4 Naruto -> http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=dwsTZh-...wsTZh-rpOE (some shows have multiple openings, i just picked the first one i could find on Youtube, apologies for the low quality). I would strongly strongly suggest Cowboy Bebop. Its older than the others and its age does show, but its an absolute masterpiece. I could cover others (FMA i could talk about for days) but those 5 above are all diverse enough as it is. Hope that helps. Edited by agrippa on 04-10-2008 16:58 |
