Network adapter driver messed up

Been wrestling with my internets recently trying to get them to stay up and finally came across the solution of upgrading my router's firmware to the latest version. Its a netgear DG834GT, came with a wireless USB usb thingy called a WG111T. This has been slightly dodgy anyway as expected of wireless I guess but after the fireware update of my router it stopped connecting to my network at all.
Guessing this was because its driver was old I downloaded a new driver and loaded that up. Now apparently I can't install the new driver as the "name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name". Going to try downgrading the driver I'm using on the adapator again and then maybe downgrading the router if possible but if anyone has come across this before or has any other suggestions help please!
