Headphones
dangerarea
So I seem to be getting through headphones like they're going out of fashion. I've been through a couple of pairs of Sennheiser HD-212s and a couple of pairs of Sony chepoish in-ears.

Anyone got any suggestions for some resonable general use headphones?

I would recommend the Empire CD 840 MV headset
its great in every way, from sound to comfort plus you can always remove the mic if you don't use it

I couldn't find a review in english but this site does offer a UK summery

Ive found these to be exceptional since teh moment i recieved them. Yes expensive, but they last. Only small complaint is the volume toggles but the surround sound is splendid.

Agree with agrippa I have the mobile version, about 50 quid. They are usb, so if you have usb speakers there may be a conflict as I found out.

Sound is excellent, and they drown the misses out which is a bonus Smile

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD555s which I can't recommend enough - about £50 if you hunt around.

While they may not be so-called '5.1' headphones, in practical use the soundstage is so good that you can position people around you when playing tf2. I mean, when you can tell a spy is around just by the fact you can hear four sets of footsteps but can only see three people, then you know you have good headphones on lol.

Having gone through a few Sony and Panasonic earphones which were good but not great, having a proper pair of audiophile-ish totally changes my music collection too, and for dvds theyre good too, well-built and comfy enough to wear for hours without noticing any face fatigue. Basically they're an ideal pair of headphones for all-round use, the only downside is price I guess. The HD595s are the next ones up at about £100 but then youre getting into headphone-amp-requiring-land, which I thought was a bit silly Pfft

I've heard that the Medusas are the only surround sound headphones worth considering, but I haven't tried them so can only tell you that mine rox my sox Grin

edit: oh and because they're not specifically for games they dont have a mic which may or may not be a problem :/

Thanks guys, I shall go and have a look round at these. I know a lot about the pro end of headphones for studio work but they seem a little excessive for playing TF2 Smile

I use the Logitech Premium Headset.
cost me £10 from toys r us.
If you want a mic that sounds decent, and sound that sounds decent but dont want to spend too much, they're the way to go.

I also have the pro medussa's version with breakout box jobbie which gives you two lots of outputs & inputs and they are very nice..

as a side not about the medusa's: I use them for watching films now as opposed to my speakers because they are vv comfortable, in the past ive picked up some slightly cheaper headsets and found them very uncomfortable (creative hs 390 were downright painful to wear imo)

Those look nice. Are probably better than the Sennheiser HD555. More expensive aswell though. Taking them into consideration.

Oh, a note about the hd555s: because they're 'open' they leak sound quite a lot, so they might not be the best choice for when other people are around Pfft It's the same with all of sennheiser's high end consumer headphones apparently :rol:

Sennheiser's do seem to leak a bit, but the sound quality is excellent. At the moment I use Sennheiser PX100 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-PX...B00009QH7P They aren't ridiculously large and they fold up Grin . I'm buying the Sennheiser CX300 in-ear headphones for more portability. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/A...B000S8EUNM

I use 7.1 surround sound for playing games (until I get shouted at to turn it down)
Could use some sort of clip on mic though, I use a desk one atm and its a little weak.
