....in a weekend of LAN gaming awesomeness? I've been looking around at different LAN centres recently (I used to manage one myself) as I'm always interested to see what has sprung up, and I've been hearing awesome things recently about Birmingham's Omega Sektor: http://www.omegasektor.com/. For those of you who haven't heard of them check the website out. They're a massive centre, with literally hundreds of PC's, but also kitted out with console rooms, chillout rooms, and most importantly 3 BARS SERVING BOOZE. I was thinking about organising a massive group to go and take the place by force, for an entire weekend, possibly extended weekend if we did it over a bank holiday. My original thoughts had been to do this as something with the 58th as we've done the whole LAN thing a few times bnow with great success, but I got thinking, why not combine communities and have an uber lan?  Basically, idea would be I'd get in touch with all those interested (from here, the 58th, and r5 plus a few mates of mine who I know would be interested), and organise for us to have a booked session, most likely starting on a Friday evening and finishing late-ish on a Sunday. I'd obviously need to get numbers in advance to I can organise a block booking, and get cheapy cheapy rates if at all possible. All of us kip at a local travelodge for the nights, then straight back to gaming drinking! The rigs there are all pretty top notch, including all peripherals, so there would be no need for anyone to cart PC's etc around with them, and from what I've heard their prices are very reasonable (will find out exactly once I've gauged interest levels). Also, what with them being in Birmingham they're about as central as we're gonna get, unless you're a johnny foreigner of course! That said, I'm sure anyone wishing to come from abroad we'd be able to organise lifts from airports etc. Anyone interested?  One for Ed: If you get the chance before me (as for some reason I can get on here but the 58th site is blocked by websweeper....grrrr) can you mention this to O8, and see if he thinks its a go-er as far as the 58th are concerned? mebbe us brizzle boyees could jointly hire a motor to go up...i say this but i dont drive as i like to be hammered in some way or other most of the time, but i still think it would be cheaper,more fun we could chuff in a car.

id love to go, though lack of money would probably restrict me from going any further than gloucester/cheltenham unless theres any health spa things around there? then could probably work out a way for the missus to drive me up while she spends the weekend at a health spa (shes got money and i dont basicly hehe) |

I had a look at the site, am i being silly or is it a case of only being open till a certain hour at night then its a total kick out until X a.m the next morning? Fortunately I'm on fairly good terms with the guy from when I was managing the LAN rooms, both his and my LAN cetres at the time were members og iguk (kind of organisation for UK LAN centres), so I've met him a few times at various conferences etc. Might be able to work something out, but nothing guaranteed til I've had chance to speak to him. |
