Looks a good price.... but what's faster, this or an ATI 3870 XT 512MB GDDR4

Well, ever since nVidia released (?) the 9800GX2, I've sort of lost faith in them.
Their dominance in the market has sort of made them a bit lazy, being that the 9800GX2 is just two 8800GT/GTS (G92) strapped together.
I'd wait for the 10 series for a revamp of the architecture.
As for the GTS in your post, nice, although it doesnt really state the core clock/memory clock (or perhaps I missed that). But that can be fixed by OC'ing ^__^

It's 650/1940/1625 core/mem/shaders.

Yeah not in a hurry yet, just been playing Crysis though and somehow thought i needed a new cardGrin

CrossFireXâ„¢ (Quad) Support 3 or 4 GPUs in CrossFireXâ„¢ Mode
This release of Catalystâ„¢ introduces CrossFireXâ„¢ Quad support. Users with any combination of a ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 3870, ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 3850, and ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 3870 X2 graphics accelerators running with 3 or 4 GPUs will be able to run in CrossFireXâ„¢ Quad mode (when used in a CrossFireXâ„¢ compatible PC). CrossFireXâ„¢ Quad will deliver significant performance improvements in a number of applications. Users can expect to see further DirectX 10 QUAD CrossFireXâ„¢ performance improvements in future Catalystâ„¢ releases.

Users are now able to run in CrossFireXâ„¢ (Quad) mode while running in extended desktop mode on the Windows Vista desktop

If i only have P35 chipset and run crossfire does it split two x8 lanes or one x16 and one x4?

That would depend on the board you have. Some board will come with 2 x16 slots, whilst others divide one x16 slot to two x8 slots. First thing you have to make sure is that the board actually supports crossfire.

i think most P35's support Crossfire have seen various implentations of the lanes but are there any P35's with 2 x 16 lanes?..

You may also be limited in that should you choice to add a 2nd X2 card the the PCIe bus would be saturated as its only PCIe 1.0-1 rather than version 2 which is provided on x38 chipset and upwards(if you have a spare 16 lane PCIe slot on your P35!). Single x2 you would be fine as you don't go near the limits of the bus Smile
